Plaza District is commercial district filled with upcoming artists, artisans and local businesses – at NW 16th & Gatewood.
In the 1920s a commercial niche formed along NW 16th Street between Blackwelder and Indiana Avenues. This development was in response to the area’s location at the end of the trolley line as well as the growth of neighborhoods around the district. With the addition of the Plaza Theatre in the mid-1930s, the area became known as the Plaza District.
Located on NW 16th Street between Classen and Penn Ave, the Plaza District is home to galleries, studios, retail shops, restaurants, performance venues and creative services. Choose from a variety of gourmet dining and drinking establishments and visit our retail shops featuring artist-made, vintage and retro clothing and home furnishings. Experience Oklahoma’s premier professional theatre company, Lyric Theatre, in the district’s historic Plaza Theatre, or enroll in classes at our dance, theatre or painting studios. The district is also home to many neighborhood and creative services. Hairstylists, tattoo artists, graphic designers and more are just a step away!
The Plaza District is a literal hub for the surrounding neighborhoods: Young’s Englewood, Las Vegas, Gatewood, University, & Mesta Park. The area on the south side of 16th is just now starting to re-awaken!
